Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Atlantic City, Los Ángeles, New York, Ámsterdam,
mesa (puedes comprarlas o rentarlas), armar tu “outfit” blanco (cuanto mas
Merci beaucoup!
Jusqu’a l’annee prochaine!
The
slogan is wearing 'elegant' white, bringing two white chairs, a table with
white tablecloth, china crockery, cutlery, wine glasses and delicious "
homemade meal”. They also encourage creativity when choosing the outfit to wear,
accessories and centerpieces. The meeting is held once a year in a place that
the organizers kept secret until just a few minutes before 6 pm (the start time).
This is the event " Diner en Blanc
" that on 18 September met its third edition in the city of New York.
This time the point chosen was Bryant Park (located at 6th Avenue and 42nd Street).
Earlier meetings were held at Lincoln Center (in 2012) and the Battery Park (in
2011).
The
idea for the event came 25 years ago in Paris and has been developing steadily
in the City of Light since. The concept: meet friends and spend a glamorous and
fun evening in pure white and with a "vintage “ touch. This idea was
propagated in recent years by several cities in the United States and the world:
Toronto, Vancouver, Stockholm, Quebec, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Atlantic City,
Los Angeles, New York, Amsterdam, Montreal, Berlin, to name a few.
All
this surrounded by a halo of mystery from the start. First you must be
registered on a waiting list, or be invited by a member. You receive an email a
week before the event in which they warn you that at a certain time that day
begin online registration. At the " appointed time " is that the page
is completely collapsed by the amount of people who are attempting to register.
This year the waiting list was 45,000, while only 4,000 were able to attend the
to the party. If you are persistent enough (like me) at the end of half an hour
of failed attempts to access the page you manage. Once there, with the code you
have supplied in the email, you start the registration process (for which you only
have 15 minutes), so you should have all your data and credit card handy. It's
a race against time, a little stressful, but very tasteful. The idea of being
part of such an event justifies everything (at least that's the “mantra” that
you keep in your head to continue with the task). From that moment begins
another race against time. You only have one week to get the chairs and the
table (you can buy or rent them), build your " outfit " white (the
more eccentric the better), organize the
food you're bringing (there is the option to buy the catering they offer on
their website) and online purchase alcoholic beverages if you want some (that’s
the big difference with the Paris event, there you bring your own drink, here
is forbidden the entry of alcoholic beverages in public places). The rules are
rather strict, but people seem to follow them with pleasure. Ultimately it is
an event unique in style and is just once a year. The reward for so much work:
a lovely evening at an exclusive Manhattan spot, with people willing to have
fun, amazing frame, the full moon passing behind the Chrysler Building, the
Empire State imposing a witness, the cool stillness of a September sunset,
waving white napkins to the beat of good music, good wine, good food, and a
sense of belonging to another world. A world where our wildest dreams can come true.
The possibility of living a magical night once a year. That's " Diner en Blanc “. This time it
was my first time and I must say it was wonderful. Merci beaucoup! Jusqu'a l' annee prochaine!
